On 85th Anniversary of Social Security, Steve Daines Remains Committed to Undermining Critical Programs for Seniors

Helena, MT –  On the 85th anniversary of Social Security being signed into law, Senator Steve Daines is still walking in lockstep with Republican Party leaders in their cruel attempts to gut funding for critical programs for seniors. Senator Steve Daines stayed the course when President Donald Trump issued an executive order that poses “a threat to Social Security no matter how he casts it.”

This continues Daines’ long history of undermining these crucial lifelines for Montana’s seniors.

Daines has voted against expanding Social Security benefits and has supported legislation that threatens Medicare funding. Additionally, Daines championed tax cuts that disproportionately benefited massive corporations and the ultra-wealthy, while his party wanted to pay for them by cutting funding for Social Security and Medicare.

“Even during a public health crisis which is disproportionately affecting seniors, Steve Daines is refusing to fight for them,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Instead, Daines has been busy looking out for the ultra-wealthy and his corporate donors rather than Montana’s seniors – we know who he is really fighting for.”
