Despite millions of dollars in negative advertising against him, Cooney has closed the gap in his campaign to defeat New Jersey millionaire Greg Gianforte. A new poll by one of the nation’s top polling firms shows Lt. Governor Mike Cooney and Congressman Greg Gianforte statistically tied (46% Cooney/47% Gianforte).
Cooney is also shattering fundraising records in what’s being described as a “dominant showing of support from Montanans.” During the most recent fundraising period, Cooney raised more than double the amount raised by Governor Steve Bullock during a similar period in 2016, and for the second fundraising period in a row, Cooney outraised his multimillionaire opponent, Greg Gianforte.
Fueled by widespread grassroots support, Cooney has visited with voters across Montana, including stops in Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Dillon, Glendive, Great Falls, Havre, Hamilton, Helena, Kalispell, Lewistown, Livingston, Miles City, Missoula, Sidney, and Polson.
Since mid-July, Cooney has rolled out his vision for the future of Montana’s health care, economy, public lands, public education, agriculture, unions, and veterans, on top of his proposed Constitutional Initiative to ban a sales tax in Montana.
“Mike Cooney is picking up steam in the nation’s most competitive gubernatorial race,” said MDP Deputy Communications Director Matt Fidel. “Cooney’s exciting vision for Protecting the Last Best Place is clearly resonating with voters, while No-Show Greg Gianforte is still missing in action.”
