NEW: As Trump Hopes SCOTUS “Ends” ACA, Daines Closes In on Confirming Nominee Risking Protections for Pre-Existing Conditions

Rushed SCOTUS Confirmation Comes as Senate GOP Stalls Pandemic Relief

Helena, MT – In a new interview, President Trump said he hopes the Supreme Court “end[s]” the Affordable Care Act and that “It’ll be so good if they end it.” These shocking comments come as Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans advanced President Trump’s anti-health care Supreme Court nominee – jeopardizing health care access for tens of thousands of Montanans. Despite expressing adamant opposition to the nomination of a new justice in an election year back in 2016, Daines has done a complete 180 – even agreeing to confirm the President’s nominee before he knew who it was.

Instead of focusing on delivering pandemic relief for Montanans, Daines and his GOP colleagues in the Senate have remained focused on ramming through this nominee who poses a threat to the ACA. Just one week after election day, the Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in the case to repeal the health care law, and coverage protections for people with pre-existing conditions are “in greater danger than ever.”

If Daines has it his way, he will confirm this nominee who could side against the law that ensures protections for 152,000 Montanans with pre-existing conditions, provides tens of thousands of Montanans with health coverage, and bolsters rural hospitals – in the middle of a global public health crisis.

“Today, Steve Daines got one step closer to his goal of overturning the law that ensures protections for Montanans with pre-existing conditions,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Montanans deserve a senator who will fight for their health care access – but time and time again, Daines has shown he’s just looking out for himself and his corporate donors.”
