“Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney… doesn’t mince words, when it comes to his opposition to a statewide sales tax,” said MTN News, noting that “Cooney voted against statewide sales-tax bills that made it to the Senate floor in 2003 and 2005.” Last month, Cooney launched “Montanans Against a Sales Tax,” a Constitutional Initiative to permanently ban a statewide sales tax in Montana, once and for all.
Meanwhile, Greg Gianforte continues to lie about his sales tax record, claiming that he has never supported one, despite his clear record to the contrary. He even testified on behalf of legislation to implement one in Montana, which would have conveniently slashed income taxes on millionaires like himself. “This is a guy who lied to police after he assaulted a reporter. Why should Montanans believe him on anything?” Cooney said.
As noted by MTN, “After Gianforte assaulted Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs… Gianforte initially told law enforcement that Jacobs had initiated the contact. A Fox News reporter who witnessed the incident reported that Gianforte grabbed Jacobs by the neck [and] threw him to the ground and started punching him, after Jacobs had attempted to question Gianforte about a health-care bill before the U.S. House.”
“Time and again, Greg Gianforte has proven that he’s willing to say anything to salvage his political career,” said MDP Deputy Communications Director Matt Fidel. “Just like his statewide sales tax dreams, Montanans will reject Greg Gianforte and his egregious lies this November.”
