Montanans to Do Nothing Daines: Why Aren’t You Helping Us?

Helena, MT – As Steve Daines continues his month-long vacation, Montanans are sending him a simple message: do your job. Yesterday, a group gathered in front of Daines’ Billings office to demand that he go back to Washington D.C. to pass pandemic relief for his constituents, instead of continuing his prolonged holiday.

One protester summed it up, “I don’t get a month-long recess, most of Montana doesn’t get a month-long recess …There’s a lot of people who are out of work, who are at risk of losing their housing. Steve Daines, why aren’t you helping Montanans?”

As a result of Daines’ inaction, vital needs for Montanans are going unfunded – including resources for state and local governments, our schools, and the Postal Service and workers who’ve lost their jobs due to this crisis. Adding salt to the wound, the country is now heading towards a government shutdown thanks to Daines and his colleagues on the Appropriations Committee failing to pass spending bills in a shameless attempt to avoid taking “any controversial votes” until they are “safely past Election Day.”

“Steve Daines’ failure to do his job has real life consequences – small businesses are closing, millions are losing health care, and the Postal Service lacks the necessary funding to continue services,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Montanans are sick and tired of Do Nothing Daines’ failure to show up for them during this crisis.”
