Helena, MT – Following the news that Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney’s campaign for Governor is launching Women for Cooney – a statewide group of prominent women elected officials and community leaders who support Mike Cooney’s vision to fight for all Montanans – it’s worth examining his opponent’s record of failing to show up for Montana women when it counts.
In this Congress, Gianforte skipped more votes than 93% of his colleagues, including critical votes to support survivors of domestic violence and funding for maternal and child health programs. When he has shown up for work – like he’s paid to do – Gianforte voted against the the bipartisan Paycheck Fairness Act , and voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act . Greg Gianforte is so out-of-touch, he even mocked those who advocate for equal pay as making a “big deal over this equal pay for women,” despite the fact that women in Montana make nearly $10,000 less than their male counterparts, for doing the exact same job.
“Greg Gianforte’s candidacy presents a fundamental threat to the rights of Montana women,” said MDP Deputy Communications Director Matt Fidel. “Montanans sent Gianforte to Congress to advocate for them. Instead, he’s blown off his job, opposed equal pay for equal work, and voted against support for survivors of domestic violence. Time and time again, Greg Gianforte has proven that he simply can’t be trusted to show up for Montana women.”
