Matt Rosendale’s Dangerous Agenda to Cut Social Security

Helena, MT – As legacy Montanans reach retirement in uncertain times, it’s more important than ever that they are able to depend on receiving the benefits they’ve paid for throughout their careers. In 2017, more than 221,000 Montanans received social security benefits — and those benefits dramatically reduced the poverty rate for Montanans over 65 by more than 30%.

None of that matters to Maryland Matt Rosendale, who has loudly called for raising the Social Security eligibility age, and privatizing the program. Rosendale also championed the 2017 GOP Tax bill, which is projected to add nearly $2 trillion to the federal deficit, and paved the way for pushes for significant cuts to Medicare and Social Security. His economic plan could force massive cuts to critical safety net programs like Social Security.

Kathleen Williams, on the other hand, has promised to defend Medicare and Social Security, and ensure that all Montanans have the resources necessary to retire with security and dignity. Her fierce advocacy has earned her the endorsement of Social Security Works — tune in tonight at 5pm to hear her and SSW President John Baumann discuss the importance of having a representative who will defend Social Security in Congress.

“As a wealthy real estate developer from the East Coast, Rosendale probably isn’t worried about his own retirement — thousands of Montanans can’t say the same,” said MDP Communications Director Nathan Stein. “Rosendale’s attacks on Social Security are further proof of just how out-of-touch he is — and that Montanans can’t trust him to fight for anyone but himself.”
