In May, Gianforte voted against a bipartisan COVID-19 relief package that would extend unemployment benefits beyond this week’s July 31 expiration date. While some Republicans have signaled a willingness to extend benefits, Gianforte’s position remains that beyond tomorrow, Montanans who remain out of work should receive $0 in extended unemployment benefits from the federal government.
“It’s hard to imagine anything more out-of-touch than a multimillionaire seeking to eliminate unemployment benefits for thousands of working families, during a once-in-a-lifetime public health and economic emergency,” said MDP Deputy Communications Director Matt Fidel. “Montanans deserve a Governor who will go to bat for them when it matters most. Once again, Gianforte has failed that test, which is why voters will reject him this November.”
