In New Ad, Cooney Exposes New Jersey Millionaire Greg Gianforte’s Atrocious Anti-Public Lands Record
Helena, MT – In a newly released adMike Cooney’s campaign is not mincing words about New Jersey millionaire Greg Gianforte’s longstanding anti-public lands record.
WATCH NOW: “On protecting public lands, Greg Gianforte is selfish, greedy, like when he sued to block access to a stream near his riverfront mansion.”
After suing Montana taxpayers to stop anglers from accessing a popular fishing site on the East Gallatin River, Greg Gianforte wrote legislation in Congress to strip protections from nearly 700,000 acres of public lands — without public input — a move described by conservation advocates as potentially “the single biggest rollback of protected public lands in Montana history.”

When Gianforte was asked about anti-public lands zealot William Perry Pendley serving as the head of the Bureau of Land Management, Gianforte said he was “pleased” and said he’s “optimistic about working with Mr. Pendley to promote Montana’s interests.” Gianforte also supports transferring control of federal land, and he opposes buying any new land for state parks or fishing access sites.

“Greg Gianforte sued to block Montanans’ access to public lands, and then wrote legislation to strip protections away from them. Now, he’s supporting an anti-public lands zealot to oversee millions of acres of public lands in Montana,” said MDP Deputy Communications Director Matt Fidel. “With a record like that, New Jersey millionaire Greg Gianforte simply can’t be trusted to defend public lands.”
