In Midst of Global Pandemic, Daines Still Committed to Gutting Montanans’ Health Care
Helena, MT – As the country confronts the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Senator Steve Daines remains committed to taking away Montanans’ health care. Daines recently said he will “continue to fight to repeal Obamacare” even during an unprecedented public health crisis. In a new story, experts note that if Republicans succeed in gutting the health care law it would be “a catastrophic result for millions of families” coming at a time when “people need health coverage more than ever.”

If the ACA was fully repealed, Medicaid expansion would be eliminated, stripping health coverage from more than 80,000 Montanans, jeopardizing expanded access to mental health and substance use disorder treatments, and undercutting a lifeline for Montana’s rural hospitals. 152,000 Montanans with pre-existing conditions would become vulnerable again to insurance company discrimination – all in the middle of a pandemic.

“In a time of extreme health and economic uncertainty, Steve Daines continues to support gutting the health care law providing coverage to thousands of Montanans,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “Montanans deserve a senator who fights for affordable, accessible health care.”
