Just like when Daines touted his role in the Butte Veterans Home, but voted against the funding for it in Washington, D.C, Montanans see right through Daines’ shameless political posturing. It’s clear Daines is out for himself, not Montanans.
Montana Post: Dishonest Daines Takes Credit for Another Tester Bill to Assist Veterans
By: Don Pogreba
“While some Montana television news stations focused yesterday on the very important news that Steve Daines recorded himself dropping off a mail ballot—a right he fought against for the rest of Montanans—they missed another Daines story that is perhaps more revealing about the character of the man.
Yesterday afternoon, Daines took credit on Twitter for what he called “his” bipartisan bill” to provide mental health services for veterans, even though the bill was written, sponsored, and passed through the efforts of Senator Jon Tester.
Now, we know the last part of the tweet is untrue unless supporting Montana veterans means voting against funding a much-needed Veterans home in Butte and then throwing a fit until you’re invited to a groundbreaking for the facility.
And while the bill did pass, it certainly wasn’t due to the efforts of Senator Daines. A quick look reveals that the bill, like so many others designed to prove treatment and assistance for Montana veterans, was sponsored by Jon Tester, and while the bill ultimately had 53 bipartisan co-sponsors, Daines was among the last to sign on, not bothering to sign on until July, when the hard work of getting the bill passed had already been done.
It’s hard to know what is most troubling: that Daines cannot tell the truth, that he’d lie to veterans, or that the press continues to let him get away with it.
There are enough liars and frauds in Congress. Let’s send Steve Daines back to his mansion so he has all the time in the world to record his selfies, and if journalists still think they’re newsworthy, they run as many stories about them as they like.”
