Greg Gianforte Supports Ending Extended Unemployment Benefits Today
As Gianforte Earns Millions Sitting on Passive Income, Relief for Thousands of Montana Families Stops Tonight
Helena, MT – Greg Gianforte and his congressional allies failed to reach a deal to extend unemployment benefits for thousands of Montana families beyond tonight, pulling the rug out from under working Montanans struggling to get back on their feet. After earning $184 million over the last 10 years, Greg Gianforte believes that out-of-work Montanans don’t deserve additional relief, and he opposes extending emergency unemployment benefits – in the midst of a pandemic.

Greg Gianforte regularly earns hundreds of thousands of dollars from passive investments, including in pandemic-related companies. Despite being the wealthiest elected member of Congress, Gianforte voted against extending unemployment benefits for working Montanans, maintaining that Montanans who remain out of work should receive $0 in extended unemployment benefits from the federal government beyond tonight’s deadline.

“While Gianforte can simply watch his bank account grow by the day, he thinks thousands of working Montanans should be cut off from extended federal assistance during an unprecedented public health emergency,” said MDP Deputy Communications Director Matt Fidel. “Working families looking for a champion certainly won’t find one in Greg Gianforte. He’s too busy counting his millions to speak up for working Montanans.”
