Helena, MT – As the Republican gubernatorial primary begins to draw to a close, the heated battle between Attorney General Tim Fox and Congressman Greg Gianforte shows no signs of cooling off.
Reporting on the primary, the Associated Press described Fox’s characterization of Gianforte as “a toxic political figure who is trying to buy the race.” Pointing out Gianforte’s failed bid for governor in 2016 – despite spending $5 million of his money – Fox has attacked Gianforte for dumping over $1 million into his own campaign, while refusing to engage with Montanans at public events or debates. Fox continued, suggesting that Gianforte is a “polarizing and divisive [figure] who turns[s] people off.”
“Greg Gianforte is a toxic, out-of-touch politician. He tried to buy the Governor’s mansion in 2016 and failed, and he’s going to lose again this November,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “If greedy Greg didn’t have another $200 million in the bank – making him the wealthiest elected member of Congress – I might start to feel bad for him.”
