GOP Civil War: AG Tim Fox Acknowledges Republican Party Torn Apart By Greg Gianforte, Dirty Primary

“[Fox] says this primary proves self-funders with immense wealth can ‘pit Republicans against Republicans’”

Helena, MT – Just days away from the June 2nd primary, Montana Republicans are publicly acknowledging what has been clear for months – there is no love lost for Greg Gianforte among his fellow Republicans. In an interview with MTPR, Attorney General Tim Fox accused ultra-millionaires like Greg Gianforte of having “pit[ted] Republicans against Republicans,” and acknowledged that Gianforte’s candidacy would “leav[e] Republicans with a weak general election ticket.”

Gianforte has borne the brunt of the Republican friendly fire, reflecting the uniquely polarizing and unpopular nature of his candidacy. Attorney General Tim Fox has described Gianforte as “a toxic political figure who is trying to buy the race,” and a “polarizing and divisive [figure] who turns people off.” Former Republican Secretary of State Bob Brown has said that Gianforte’s campaign threatens “the character of the Republican party…for years to come.” Former Republican mayor of Kalispell, Tammi Fisher, has slammed Greg Gianforte as a “copper king willing to trample on anyone…to get what he wants.”

“Greg Gianforte has drawn fierce criticism from his fellow Republicans, leaving the MTGOP deeply divided just days before next week’s primary,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “Gianforte’s candidacy has forced the Republican Party to enter the general election weak and disorganized. Democrats and Republicans alike recognize his unique unfitness to serve, and we eagerly look forward to defeating him in November.”
