Gianforte Votes to Slash $65 Million from LWCF, Attack Women’s Health, and Protect Dark Money in Politics

Helena—Today, multimillionaire Greg Gianforte voted to attack a number of Montana priorities, from public lands to women’s health to protecting our elections from the influence of dark money.

Gianforte joined his DC party bosses to pass the Interior and Financial Services Appropriations bills, which slash the Land and Water Conservation Fund by $65 million below FY2018 enacted levels. But this isn’t the first time in Gianforte’s short 13 months in Congress he’s voted to gut the LWCF; Gianforte voted in June to cut $16 million from the fund, and last year he helped pass a package that cut $125 million from the LWCF.

Gianforte’s vote also attacks Montana women by prohibiting funds from being used to help Montanans pay for any Federal health insurance plan that provides coverage for abortion services. Gianforte supports the Graham-Cassidy health care bill, which makes it easier for states to eliminate requirements mandating insurance companies cover maternity care.

And Gianforte voted to protect dark money special interests who are spending money to influence our elections. He voted against an amendment that would have allowed the SEC to require that corporations disclose their political spending, after remaining silent earlier this week about the Treasury’s decision to stop requiring 501(c)(4) organizations to disclose large donors to the IRS.

From his continued attacks on our public lands, the health and rights of Montana women, and the integrity of our democracy, Gianforte has shown that after more than a year in office, he still doesn’t understand Montana values at all.
