Gianforte Made $184 Million, Still Wants Working Montanans to Foot the Bill
Helena, MT – Greg Gianforte today released ten years’ worth of tax returns, in which he reported $184 million in gross income.
Despite his enormous wealth, with Gianforte it’s never enough: he has advocated for replacing Montana’s income tax with a statewide sales tax, calling it an “ideal solution” — despite Montanans’ overwhelming opposition to a sales tax. Gianforte went so far as to testify on behalf of a bill to lower the income tax for millionaires like himself and enact a statewide sales tax to force working Montanans to make up the difference. And when he got to Congress, he voted for a massive giveaway to big corporations and wealthy individuals like himself. After all, Gianforte believes “the fairest tax is the one you pay, and I don’t.”
“The average Montana family makes .003% of what Greg Gianforte makes in a year, and yet he still thinks they should pay sales tax while he votes for a tax cut for guys like him,” said MDP Communications Director Nathan Stein. “Gianforte is wildly out of touch with working Montanans — they won’t let him buy this election.”
