Gianforte and Dysfunctional House Majority Fail to Pass Farm Bill

Helena—Today, multimillionaire Congressman Greg Gianforte and the dysfunctional House Majority failed to pass a critical–and normally bipartisan–Farm Bill that would provide much-needed support for Montana’s farmers and ranchers.

Instead of working across the aisle, Gianforte and his party bosses politicized the normally-bipartisan Farm Bill, threatening Montana’s agriculture producers who rely on the legislation’s important safety nets.

The dysfunction of Gianforte’s House Majority even left some of his colleagues scratching their heads. Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) told Bloomberg News that the ineptitude of the Majority “certainly will leave a lot of ag producers scratching their heads about our Republican majority and moving these important pieces of legislation through the House.”

“While Greg Gianforte is a millionaire and has all the time in the world to play partisan political games, Montana’s farmers and ranchers don’t,” said Nancy Keenan, Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party. “If Gianforte understood Montana values at all, he would have worked hard on a bipartisan solution from the start. Instead, he continues to put Washington special interests and his political party bosses before the Montanans he is constitutionally obligated to represent.”
