Gianforte & Daines Think Hard-Working Montanans Are Getting Too Much Relief During Pandemic
Daines Silent as Gianforte Says Extending Unemployment Benefits Would Encourage People Not To Work
Helena, MT – As Montana’s working families weather the economic shocks of the COVID-19 crisis, Congressman Greg Gianforte thinks that they are actually getting too much financial relief. Last week, Gianforte said that extending supplemental unemployment payments would “encourage people to not return to work.” After recently calling expanded unemployment benefits “generous,” Senator Steve Daines has been silent on Gianforte’s comments.

For Daines and Gianforte – both multimillionaires themselves –  taxpayer money seems to be unlimited when securing massive tax giveaways for millionaires and pushing for corporate slush funds  but when money is needed to support hard-working Montanans losing their jobs in the midst of the pandemic, funds are suddenly tight.

“The priorities for Gianforte and Daines have been crystal clear throughout the COVID-19 crisis — look out for big business and corporations, and leave hard-working Montanans in the dust,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “During these challenging times, Montanans need representatives who care about their problems, not those of their corporate backers.”
