Gianforte, Daines, and Arntzen Join Attack on Montana Public Schools
Helena, MT – This week, out of state groups are leading an effort to undermine public education in Montana under the banner of “school choice,” a focus group tested term meant to mask the real intent behind the movement — to divert public tax dollars towards private, for-profit institutions, further starving public schools in rural communities and across the state.
Greg Gianforte, Steve Daines, and even Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen are sending letters in support of the event. This comes only a week after Gianforte and Daines joined out of state groups in a lawsuit attacking public education in Montana, while Arntzen remained conspicuously silent. The three officials’ support for “school choice” week further underlines their extreme anti-public education platforms.
“Montanans expect their elected officials to defend and improve public education, not work aggressively to publicly undermine it,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “As Gianforte, Daines, and Arntzen continue their campaign against good public schools for our kids and our future workforce, Montana Democrats will continue to fight for universal access to a quality public education.”
