Former Republican Secretary of State Endorses Bryce Bennett Over GOP Insider Christi Jacobsen

Helena, MT – Former Republican Secretary of State Bob Brown today endorsed Democrat Bryce Bennett in his campaign for his former office. Acknowledging that he “[has] endorsed Republicans in the past,” Brown affirms that Bryce “will look out for Main street businesses, battle dark money, protect access to our public lands, and work with Republicans and Democrats to get things done for Montana.”

The endorsement presents a major blow to Republican Christi Jacobsen, who has often relied on partisan insiderism to get ahead.

In 2016, Christi Jacobsen and her husband were both max-out donors to Corey Stapleton’s campaign for Secretary of State. Shortly after his victory, he hired her from the Department of Justice to be his Deputy Secretary of State at a salary that made her one of the highest-paid employees in state government, and the highest paid employee on record in the Secretary of State’s office.

After securing her job, Jacobsen used her position to dole out government contracts to GOP insiders. When her office botched the 2018 voter guide — costing taxpayers more than a quarter of a million dollars — it was revealed that the emergency contract went to a top GOP operative and Stapleton donor.

“Christi Jacobsen is learning that establishment politics will only get her so far,” said MDP Communications Director Nathan Stein. “Montanans of all political stripes can see that there’s only one candidate they can trust to defend the integrity of our elections, protect our public lands, and lift up Main Street businesses — and that’s Bryce Bennett.”
