Flashback Friday: Dishonest Daines Repeatedly Failed To Stand Up For LWCF
Helena, MT – As Senator Steve Daines looks to take a victory lap around a Senate bill that would permanently fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund, it’s worth correcting the record on his years of failing to stand up for the program and playing politics with Montana’s public lands:
2015: Daines voted against a measure to permanently reauthorize LWCF.
2015: Daines voted for an amendment that sportsmen and conservationists criticized as a “first step to federal land transfer.”
2018: Daines voted for a measure to cut $16 million in LWCF funding.
2019: When President Trump’s budget proposal slashed funding from LWCF, Daines repeatedly declined to comment.
“If Daines cared so much about the Land and Water Conservation Fund, where has he been the last five years during his time in the Senate majority?” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “Daines’ sudden ‘championing’ of LWCF not-so-coincidentally comes during a competitive reelection campaign. But Montanans won’t be fooled – they know that Daines has repeatedly failed to stand up for our public lands.”
