Dishonest Daines Tries to Rewrite His Record as “China Cheerleader”
Helena, MT – A new article sheds light on Senator Steve Daines’ history as a “China Cheerleader” – this time by throwing cold water on Daines’ hollow commitment to protecting American jobs by explaining that he has been “pushing a pro-America jobs platform, although he himself was a Procter-Gamble executive who lived in China for six years.” In addition to helping Procter & Gamble set up plants in China while the company eliminated jobs in the U.S., Daines has voted to protect tax breaks for corporations that moved jobs overseas – yet another example of Daines’ lip service to keeping American jobs at home.

The report also points to Daines’ role as the keynote speaker in 2017 to the U.S. China Business Council, a body designed to “expand the US-China commercial relationship.”

This comes as Daines has worked tirelessly in the past few months to erase his extensive track record of “not just working with the Chinese government but actively courting senior Communist Party officials.” Daines is taking orders from Republican DC consultants who have instructed candidates to attack China instead of trying to defend Trump’s anemic response to the coronavirus crisis.

“Steve Daines continues to mislead Montanans on his record – from serving as China’s ambassador in Congress to protecting tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “This blatant dishonesty is only further proof that Montanans can’t trust him.”
