Dishonest Daines: Strong Leader or Corporate Sellout?
Helena, MT – Senator Steve Daines released a new ad where he continued to paper over his record of selling out to big corporations at the expense of working Montanans. Daines has developed a never-ending habit of saying one thing to Montanans and doing another back in Washington DC.

Fear not, we’ve fixed Daines’ half-truths for him.

“Steve Daines spent 28 years in business creating jobs”

Fact Check: While Daines was helping set up Procter & Gamble plants in China in the 1990s, the company was closing plants and eliminating thousands of jobs in the U.S. While serving as a technology executive, Daines personally laid off Montanans.

“Senator Daines knows that small business is the backbone of our economy.”

Fact Check: When the pandemic first hit, Daines’ priority number one was looking out for his big-business backers, pushing for a corporate slush fund without strong protections to prevent corporations from using funds to boost CEO bonuses or buy back stocks

“Steve Daines. Strong leadership.”

Fact Check: During the global pandemic, Daines has stuck to his promise to gut the Affordable Care Act which would threaten health coverage for more than 80,000 Montanans, and jeopardize thousands of jobsreduce access to mental health and substance use disorder treatments, and devastate rural hospitals.  Meanwhile, Daines has been raking in campaign contributions from his insurance industry friends, taking more than $330,000 during his time in Congress.
