Dishonest Daines: Sleeping on the Job
As Senate Reconvenes, Daines Fails to Speak Up in Several Important Committee Meetings
Helena, MT – This week, the Senate reconvened after a long break, yet Senator Steve Daines was missing in action – failing to speak up in several important committee meetings. As state and local governments whose budgets have been decimated” call out for increased aid and Montanans out of work are staring down the expiration of expanded unemployment benefits, Daines is seemingly sleeping on the  job.

This isn’t the first time. In June, Daines failed to speak up in a meeting on Capitol Hill focusing on unemployment insurance, instead spending time chatting it up with Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon – whose corporate PAC has donated $10,000 to Daines’ reelection campaign. Just this week, Senator Steve Daines and his fellow Republicans on the Appropriations Committee were reportedly refusing to markup regularly scheduled bills in an attempt to skirt debate on tough spending issues, raising the question of a potential government shutdown.

Montanans elected Steve Daines to stand up for them in Washington, DC, but when duty calls, he is nowhere to be found, rather he hobnobbing with powerful CEOs and toeing the party line to help his reelection campaign.

“Even during an unprecedented economic and health crisis, Steve Daines is failing to do his job,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Instead, Daines is busy looking out for his corporate buddies and making desperate attempts to salvage his political career.”
