From the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, Daines has misrepresented his record on these boosted unemployment insurance benefits that help out-of-work Montanans pay their bills and put food on the table. In March, Daines voted to cap unemployment insurance, but after Democrats succeeded in expanding benefits, he was repeatedly caught dishonestly bragging about the policy he had opposed.
Instead, Daines has been looking out for his big-money buddies – supporting a corporate slush fund without strong protections, and helping Republicans slip a massive tax gift for the wealthy into a relief package.
“If Steve Daines cared so much about unemployment benefits, why did he take long weekends while they were expiring?” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Instead of delivering much-needed results for unemployed Montanans hurting during this crisis, Daines just offers cheap talk.”
