Dishonest Daines: Do You Stand With Your Anti-Public Lands Party?
Helena, MT – This week, the Republican Party chose to rollover its 2016 national party platform which calls for legislation to transfer federal lands to the states — a move that could lead to the privatization of public lands:

“Congress shall immediately pass universal legislation providing for a timely and orderly mechanism requiring the federal government to convey certain federally controlled public lands to states. We call upon all national and state leaders and representatives to exert their utmost power and influence to urge the transfer of those lands” [Republican Platform, Page 21]

As Steve Daines tries to disingenuously depict himself as a public lands advocate, will he condemn his party’s move to erode public lands protections?

Despite Daines’ election-year attempt to recast himself as a public lands advocate, his record shows him supporting Trump’s anti-conservation agenda “at seemingly every turn.” Daines voted for an amendment that sportsmen and conservationists criticized as a “first step to federal land transfer,” voted against permanent reauthorization of LWCF, and spearheaded an effort to strip protections from hundreds of thousands of acres of public lands, which critics said would have constituted the “single biggest rollback of protected public lands in Montana history.”

Actions speak louder than words. Time and again, Steve Daines has stood with his Washington party leaders on public lands – not Montanans.
