Dishonest Daines Can’t Stop Playing Politics with Montana’s Public Lands
Daines Silent On Pendley Staying On As Acting Director of the Bureau of Land Management

Helena, MT – This weekend, the White House pulled the nomination of sworn enemy to public lands” William Perry Pendley for Director of the Bureau of Land Management – shielding Senator Steve Daines from having to take a tough vote that could expose his election-year conservation pivot as a charade.

Since the announcement, however, Administration officials have indicated that Pendley will stay on in his current role of Acting Director of the BLM. Daines has previously supported Pendley, calling the backlash against his leading the agency “overblown,” however, with respect to recent developments, Daines refused to say whether he supported Pendley continuing in his role.

This continues Dishonest Daines’ habit of playing politics with Montana’s public lands.

Daines has recently tried to paint himself as a conservationist but his election-year stunt is nothing more than a shameless attempt to greenwash his abysmal public lands record now that his  political career is on the line.

Daines’ spotty public lands record goes back years – he has previously opposed permanent reauthorization of LWCF, and has voted to pull back millions from the program, he spearheaded an effort to strip protections from hundreds of thousands of acres of public lands, and has refused to support bipartisan conservation measures with broad support in Montana like the Blackfoot Clearwater Protection Act

“Steve Daines will do anything to keep up his charade as a public lands defender, but Montanans see right through him,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “It’s clear that Daines can’t be counted on to fight for the Montana way of life.”
