Despite Rising Enrollment in Medicaid Expansion, Daines and Gianforte Remain Committed to Gutting the ACA
Helena, MT – As the coronavirus pandemic continues, a new report shows that enrollment in Montana’s Medicaid expansion is ticking upwards. By bringing Democrats and Republicans together, Governor Bullock and Lieutenant Governor Cooney successfully expanded Medicaid, which has provided healthcare coverage to roughly 1 in 10 Montanans.

But the Affordable Care Act – the critical law that allows for Medicaid expansion – is in jeopardy thanks to Senator Steve Daines and Congressman Greg Gianforte’s relentless crusade to sabotage Montanans’ health care access.

Both Daines and Gianforte have supported the partisan lawsuit to overturn the ACA thereby putting Medicaid expansion at risk. This would have devastating implications for Montana – Medicaid expansion provides coverage for more than 80,000 Montanans, provides a lifeline to rural hospitals, and bolsters Community Health Centers that offer crucial mental health and substance abuse treatment services.

“While Governor Bullock and Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney have fought for accessible, affordable health care for all Montanans, Steve Daines and Greg Gianforte have worked tirelessly to gut the signature healthcare law that covers thousands in Big Sky Country,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Daines and Gianforte’s cruel agenda poses a threat to the health and well-being of Montanans, and voters will hold them accountable for their sabotage come November.”
