Daines Would Tear Down Health Care Law That Helps Provide Coverage, Care for Montana’s Veterans

Helena, MT – Last week, Senator Steve Daines voiced support for the partisan lawsuit to overturn the Affordable Care Act – the critical law that paved the way for Medicaid expansion, which now provides coverage for more than 80,000 Montanans. If Daines got his wish of repealing the ACA, it would deliver a massive blow to the many Big Sky Country veterans who rely on accessing essential care through Medicaid.

Medicaid expansion provides a crucial lifeline for veterans who don’t qualify for VA health care benefits. It also  bolsters Community Health Centers across Montana, which help provide mental health and substance abuse treatment services, and where in 2018 more than 5,000 veterans sought care.

Daines’ commitment to gutting the very law that so many veterans rely on makes clear that his supposed support for those who have served is merely cheap talk.

“Steve Daines claims he supports veterans in Montana, but back in Washington DC, he has worked to sabotage the law providing many with critical health care access,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Montanans deserve a Senator with a proven record of protecting and expanding health care access, not one who puts party and special interests ahead of supporting veterans.”
