Daines Votes for Yet Another Judicial Appointee Who Would Sabotage Montanans’ Health Care

Helena, MT – Today, Senator Steve Daines voted to confirm Cory Wilson — an outspoken opponent of the Affordable Care Act — to the Fifth Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals. He publicly called the ACA’s passage “perverse” and “illegitimate” in 2014, and Wilson urged the Supreme Court to overturn the law entirely. With his vote to confirm Wilson, Daines continues his relentless assault on Montanans’ health care — all in the midst of a public health crisis.

Earlier this month, Daines said he will “continue to fight to repeal” the ACA, which provides critical coverage protections for 152,000 Montanans with pre-existing conditions, and through Medicaid expansion covers more than 80,000 Montanans, strengthens access to mental health and substance use disorder treatments, and bolsters rural hospitals.“Once again, Steve Daines voted for a judge who supports his agenda of gutting health care protections,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Montanans deserve a Senator with a proven record of fighting for affordable and accessible health care, not one who is busy looking out for his insurance industry donors. ”
