Daines Votes for Judicial Appointee Who Opposes Health Care Law that Serves as Lifeline to Montanans
Helena, MT – Today, as Governor Bullock met with Missoula health care workers to discuss the critical role Medicaid expansion has played during the COVID-19 outbreak,  Senator Steve Daines voted to confirm Justin Walker, Mitch McConnell’s judicial protege who was reportedly  “still unhappy” with the Supreme Court ruling that upheld the Affordable Care Act, the law that provides coverage protections for 152,000 Montanans with pre-existing conditions.

Daines’ vote for Walker highlights his relentless commitment to gutting Montanans’ health care — even in the midst of a global pandemic. Daines recently said he will “continue to fight to repeal” the law which paved the way for Medicaid expansion, which covers more than 80,000 Montanans, strengthens access to mental health and substance use disorder treatments, and bolsters rural hospitals.

“Even during an unprecedented public health crisis, Steve Daines continues to support gutting the health care law providing coverage to thousands of Montanans,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Come November, Montanans will elect a Senator with a proven record of fighting for affordable and accessible health care, not one who is busy looking out for his insurance and pharmaceutical industry donors.”
