Daines Tries to Rewrite Record of Gutting Health Care Coverage In Another Election-Year Ploy

Helena, MT – Senator Steve Daines is once again attempting to gloss over his abysmal record of sabotaging health care coverage with a desperate election-year bill to distract Montanans from his years of working to undermine their health care. This comes on the heels of Daines and his Senate colleagues allowing the boosted unemployment benefits to expire, and is just the latest of Daines’ election-year switch-ups – desperately trying to rewrite his history on a slew of issues, ranging from China to public lands.

As a reminder, Daines supports the partisan lawsuit to overturn the Affordable Care Act in addition to voting repeatedly to gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and voting to expand “junk” insurance plans which are not required to cover pre-existing conditions. Daines and his fellow Republicans have failed to offer an alternative to the ACA that wouldn’t reduce current protections, and have failed to push the Trump Administration to open a special ACA enrollment period to help those who  lost their employer-sponsored health insurance months ago.

“Daines continues making last-ditch efforts to hide his shameful record of fighting for his insurance industry backers instead of hard-working families,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Montanans see that Daines will say anything to save his political career.”
