If Daines has it his way and the law is overturned, 112,000 Montanans stand to lose their coverage and 152,000 Montanans with pre-existing conditions could once again be denied coverage by insurance companies. Additionally, Montana’s Medicaid expansion – which insures more than 85,000 Montanans, bolsters rural hospitals, and has created thousands of jobs – would be at risk.
Today’s vote makes clear that Daines will stop at nothing to protect his corporate allies while hard-working Montanans pay the price. It’s no wonder why – Daines has pocketed more than $400,000 in campaign cash from the insurance industry during his time in Washington D.C.
“In the midst of an unprecedented crisis, Steve Daines is ramming through a Supreme Court justice nominee as protections for Montanans with pre-existing conditions hang in the balance,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “It’s clear that Daines is more focused on achieving a partisan win and delivering for his donors than he is with doing right by Montanans.”
