Despite opposition from numerous veterans groups, Daines co-sponsored a measure to repeal a Department of Education rule that required for-profit colleges to disclose basic information about their cost, debt levels, and job placement rates. Once again ignoring the concerns of veterans groups, Daines voted against overturning DeVos’ ‘borrower defense rule,’ which would “make it considerably harder” for students who were defrauded by disreputable schools to have their loans forgiven.
Time and time again, Daines has prioritized the profits of predatory academic institutions over the financial security and educational opportunities of veterans.
“Steve Daines claims to advocate for veterans in Washington D.C., yet he has paved the way for shady, for-profit colleges to take advantage of those who have bravely served our nation,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “If Daines really cared about veterans, he would support safeguards to protect veterans from predatory academic institutions – instead, he’s done the opposite.”
