Daines Still Quiet as Congress Demands Answers From Aide Turned Pandemic Profiteer
Daines Continues Skirting Questions as House Energy and Commerce Committee Investigates his Former Aide Mike Gula
Helena, MT – Yesterday, Congressional leaders on the House Energy and Commerce Committee sent a letter to Mike Gula — the former aide to Senator Steve Daines who founded Blue Flame Medical, a company built using Washington “relationships” to capitalize on the coronavirus pandemic — demanding answers surrounding the company’s failure to provide PPE it sold to state and local governments.
The letter comes after the House Energy and Commerce Committee announced a probe into Blue Flame last week, the Justice Department launched an investigation into the company, and several states canceled their contracts after the company failed to deliver on orders for medical supplies that are in short supply across the country.

Daines has paid Gula nearly $500,000 since 2018, including almost $50,000 in February, but has refused to answer questions about his relationship with Gula or whether he helped leverage his standing as “China’s ambassador in Congress” to assist Blue Flame in partnering with a subsidiary of a Chinese government-owned company.

“The facts are clear — Senator Daines’ former aide built a sham company to capitalize on a global pandemic,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “As more states cancel their contracts with Blue Flame and investigations mount, Daines continues to skirt questions about his involvement with this profiteering scheme, and whether  he was one of the ‘relationships’ Gula leveraged. Montanans deserve answers.”
