Daines Silent as Pandemic Aid for Indian Country Delayed
Helena, MT – In recent months, Indian Country has faced its worst crisis in decades with deadly coronavirus outbreaks and profound economic devastation. Yet, Senator Steve Daines has remained silent as critical funding allocated for tribal governments has been delayed over claims from for-profit corporations.

Instead, Daines has remained focused on helping out his big-business backers, supporting a massive corporate bailout without strong protections to prevent corporations from using federal aid funds to boost CEO bonuses or buy back stocks, and helping Senate Republicans slip a massive tax giveaway for millionaires into must-pass legislation.

“Senator Daines continues to fail to show up for Indian Country,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “From pushing a relief package without funding for tribal governments to remaining silent while those critical funds were delayed, Daines is more interested in taking credit for measures he opposed and fighting for large corporations than getting tribal governments the resources they need.”
