Daines Silent as McConnell Refuses to Fund State and Local Governments
Helena, MT – Over the past few months, state and local governments have faced the brunt of the coronavirus pandemic. As the crisis continues, these governments are looking to Congress for much-needed relief to “purchase personal protective equipment, pay first responders and cover other public-health costs related to the pandemic.” Despite new aid for state and local governments clearing the Democratic-controlled House in May, Mitch McConnell has refused to take action.
While communities call out for crucial relief, Senator Steve Daines has chosen to remain in lockstep behind McConnell. Throughout the pandemic, Daines’ number one priority has been protecting the interests of his well-to-do friends – supporting  a corporate slush fund without strong protections, and helping Republicans slip a massive tax giveaway for the wealthy into a relief package, while voting to cap unemployment benefits for those who’ve lost their jobs during this economic downturn.
“Even during a national crisis, Steve Daines is too scared to stand up to Mitch McConnell,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “It’s time that Montanans have a Senator who fights for them, not one who kow-tows to party bosses.”
