Daines Rejected Funding to Hire More Health Care Professionals at the VA

Helena, MT – Senator Steve Daines has depicted himself as a great champion of veterans – claiming he is committed to ensuring they “receive the care and benefits that they fought for and greatly deserve.” Unlike Governor Bullock who has fought for veterans throughout his time in office, Daines has repeatedly broken his promises by voting to undermine veterans’ access to quality, affordable health care.

For years, veterans have often confronted prolonged waits and appointment delays when seeking care at the VA. Yet, when Daines had the chance to vote for a measure to provide funding for the VA to hire more health care professionals – funded by an increased tax on millionaires – he voted against it. Daines then went on to vote to gut Medicaid expansion, which provides a crucial lifeline for many Big Sky County veterans who don’t qualify for VA health care benefits.

Daines seems more concerned with looking out for the wealthy and his insurance industry donors than Montana’s veterans.

“Daines loves to tout his support for veterans in speeches and press releases, but when push comes to shove, he voted to protect the interests of the wealthy over those who have given so much to serve in our armed forces,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Montanans know that actions speak louder than words.”
