Daines Raising Money with Candidate Known for Racist and Misogynistic Comments
Helena, MT – As Steve Daines struggles with an increasingly tough reelection fight by trying to mislead Montanans on his record on China and dishonestly attempting to take credit for critical coronavirus response measures that he opposed, the vulnerable senator is doing everything he can to raise money for his flailing campaign — including teaming up with a former congressman known for his racist and sexist remarks as a radio commentator.
A new report details that a joint fundraising committee set up to defend vulnerable Republican incumbents and boost GOP challengers includes Senator Daines and Jason Lewis, a former congressman known for his “inflammatory” on-air remarks. The new reporting comes the same day Daines joins Roll Call’s top ten most vulnerable incumbent Senators.
“Steve Daines knows he’s vulnerable, and he’ll say anything — and work with anyone — to get money in the door of his struggling campaign,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “Senator Daines is so desperate to give himself a chance that he’s creating even more problems for himself. Montanans won’t let him off the hook for it.”
