Daines: “I’d Never Heard of Such A Thing As Taking a Month Off in the Summertime”
The Senator Has Zero Problems Taking A Month Off in the Middle Of a Pandemic

Helena, MT –  Back in 2018, Senator Steve Daines had some serious issues with taking a month off of legislating for August recess, saying “I’d never heard of such a thing as taking a month off in the summertime” and “if the kids aren’t behaving well, you cancel recess. Arguably, the Senate’s not behaving. It’s time to cancel recess, stay here, and do the work of the people.” Two years later, Daines has no problem taking time off in the midst of an unprecedented public health and economic crisis.

Every day that Daines spends at home enjoying his month-long vacation, Montanans are being left in the dust. Without a COVID relief package that provides support to the Postal Service, state and local governments, schools, and boosted unemployment benefits, the critical needs of people across Montana are going unmet.

If Dishonest Daines really believed that “if the kids aren’t behaving well, you cancel recess,” then he’d be back in Washington D.C. doing his job instead of enjoying undeserved time off.

It is unbelievable that Daines is taking a month off and enjoying his vacation while Montanans across the state are hurting right now,” said MDP Communications Director Nathan Stein. “It’s clear that Do Nothing Daines is only willing to do his job when it’s convenient for him, not when Montanans actually need him.”
