Daines Has Repeatedly Voted to Gut Medicaid Expansion Which Has Been “Absolutely Critical” for Success of Treatment Courts
Helena, MT – Last week, Senator Steve Daines visited a treatment court – which provides alternative rehabilitation for those with substance use disorders – and touted their importance here in Montana as a “a great investment in taxpayer dollars.” Yet, Daines has voted countless times to gut the Affordable Care Act, which made Medicaid expansion possible and has been “absolutely critical” in the success of treatment courts.
This continues Daines pattern of saying one thing to Montanans, while doing another back in Washington D.C.
Throughout his time in the Senate, Daines has voted repeatedly to repeal and gut the ACA and supports a partisan lawsuit to overturn the law – thereby threatening Medicaid expansion which has paved the way for increased access to mental health and substance abuse treatments. Additionally, Daines has voted repeatedly to gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
“Thanks to Governor Bullock’s leadership, thousands of Montanans have access to critical health care services,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “If Steve Daines had it his way, the law which serves as a lifeline to those struggling with addiction and mental health problems would be ripped away during a moment of profound uncertainty.”
