Senator Steve Daines has previously expressed his support for Pendley’s nomination – despite his record of zealous opposition to public lands. Pendley has “argued for selling off almost all public lands” and claimed that concerns about climate change come from “kooks” who are “preaching fear.” As acting director, Pendley’s appointment faced opposition from “more than 100 conservation organizations,” including multiple Montana groups.
“As Daines tries to rewrite his public lands record with an election-year pivot, his ongoing support for anti-public lands appointees like William Perry Pendley paints the real picture,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Pendley’s presence at the Bureau of Land Management threatens the Montana way of life. With his refusal to oppose Pendley’s appointment, Daines proves he is no friend to public lands.”
