Bright’s whistleblower report reveals that he made a personal appeal to Senator Steve Daines in March, telling him that there were serious issues that were hampering the U.S.’s response to the pandemic.
Bright was then reportedly ousted from his role after pushing back against President Trump’s promotion of hydroxychloroquine, an unproven treatment whose manufacturers Daines had investments in and which he has touted, despite serious questions as to its safety and efficacy. Yet, Daines has refused to hold the Trump administration accountable for sidelining a top official for raising alarms about botching response to the pandemic.
“As more American lives are lost with each passing day, Senator Daines isn’t strong enough to stand up to the Trump administration,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “Daines is more concerned about his pandemic posturing than actually demanding a coherent national strategy from the White House on how to save lives as the coronavirus continues to spread across the country.”
