This continues Daines’ cowardly pattern of avoiding his constituents, choosing instead to spend time with a curated audience.
From 2015 to 2019, Daines only held a small number of town halls, opting for “orchestrated meetings with supporters,” not “real town halls.” In an event billed as a “meeting with local officials, community leaders, and constituents”, Daines declined to meet with the two-dozen Montanans who had gathered to speak with him, instead choosing to sneak out the back door.
Montanans have taken note of Daines’ unwillingness to meet with them – some have even gathered in protest to demand town halls. Yet, Daines has repeatedly avoided meeting with Montanans to hear their concerns.
“Throughout his time in office, Daines has shirked his responsibility to be a Senator for all Montanans. He would rather surround himself only with supporters who already agree with him,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “That’s not the Montana way.”
