Daines Continues Failing to Deliver Desperately-Need COVID Relief for Montanans
Helena, MT – Yesterday, hopes for COVID relief were dashed as President Trump shut the door on negotiations. Instead of taking responsibility for his failure to deliver for Montanans, Senator Steve Daines resorted to partisan finger-pointing. While the House of Representatives passed additional relief months ago and has proposed compromises, Daines and his Republican colleagues in the Senate have taken over a month in vacation days and thrown in the towel on reaching a deal before the upcoming election.

As a result of Daines’ utter failure to do his job, essential priorities in Montana are going unmet, including for the Postal Service which is vital for rural and tribal communities, and workers who’ve lost their jobs due to this crisis.

Instead, Daines has been focused on rushing through a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court which could have devastating implications for Montanans’ health care access. Just one week after election day, the Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments in the case to overturn the Affordable Care Act. If this law is gutted, 112,000 Montanans stand to lose their coverage and 152,000 Montanans with pre-existing conditions could become vulnerable again to insurance company discrimination.

“Steve Daines embodies everything that is wrong with Washington D.C. – he’s more focused on executing a shameless power grab to further his goal of gutting Montanans’ health care than he is with delivering results for Montanans during this unprecedented crisis,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes.
