In March, Senator Steve Daines personally fought to include Operation Warp Speed in the CARES Act, allowing Big Pharma to secure massive federal contracts. Executives from these companies admitted they expect to profit off the vaccine. While working on and successfully passing Warp Speed under the CARES Act, Daines took thousands of dollars in campaign cash from companies who were eventually awarded federal contracts, including from AstraZeneca which “tripled its other donations to Daines.”
These developments shed light on Daines’ history of prioritizing Big Pharma’s interests over those of Montanans – accepting nearly $140,000 from pharmaceutical companies over his years in Washington D.C., despite these companies having “little to no presence in Montana.” After securing them federal contracts, Daines’ Big Pharma backers are rewarding him with campaign cash.
“Steve Daines fought to pad the pockets of his Big Pharma buddies, and now they’re ratcheting up prescription drug prices in the middle of a public health crisis,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Instead of fighting for hard-working Montanans, Daines is busy looking out for his corporate backers who bankroll his political career.”
