Daines-Backed Lawsuit Could “Eliminate” Medicaid Expansion and Knock Nearly 90,000 Montanans Off Their Health Insurance
Helena, MT – A new analysis from the Kaiser Family Foundation found that overturning the Affordable Care Act could “eliminate” the ability to gain coverage through Medicaid expansion and force more than 80,000 Montanans to become uninsured. In addition, the “improved access to care.. the affordability of care, and financial security” made possible by Medicaid expansion could disappear.

This comes as Daines is rushing to confirm President Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court who poses a dire threat to Montanans’ health care access. The oral arguments in the case before the Supreme Court to repeal the ACA are set to begin just one week after Election Day — and Montana’s Medicaid expansion which insures more than 80,000 Montanans, bolsters rural hospitals, and has created thousands of jobs – is at risk.

But Daines continues plowing ahead with his support to repeal the ACA – just yesterday, he cast a vote reaffirming his support for the partisan lawsuit to dismantle the law. Instead of fighting to protect Montanans’ access to affordable health care, Daines is only looking out for himself and his corporate donors.

“Medicaid expansion has been a lifeline to tens of thousands of Montanans and our rural hospitals  but Steve Daines is actively working to gut it,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Come November, Montanans will replace Daines with Governor Bullock who has a proven track record of bringing Democrats and Republicans together to expand access to affordable health care.”
