Cooney Rolls Out “Growing Montana” Plan to Invest in Ag and Rural Economy Damaged by Gianforte-Backed Trade War
Gianforte supported the federal government’s international trade agenda

Helena, MT – Alongside Sen. Jon Tester, Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney released his “Growing Montana” plan this yesterday to support rural communities and struggling farmers and ranchers throughout Montana. Meanwhile, Greg Gianforte has been a vocal supporter of the federal government’s international trade agenda, despite the devastation that it’s wrought on Montana’s agricultural economy.

In 2019, Montana farmers and ranchers received $115 million in federal subsidies. Although the subsidies are meant to blunt the financial impact of the Gianforte-backed trade war, Gianforte has slammed subsidies, saying“subsidies do not create wealth, they consume it, placing an even larger burden on the true wealth creators.”

“Greg Gianforte has stood in lock step with the federal government during their reckless trade war,” said MDP Deputy Communications Director Matt Fidel. “Montana farmers and ranchers deserve better than an East Coast multimillionaire who doesn’t understand how vital Montana’s agricultural economy is.”
