Bozeman Daily Chronicle: Now Not The Time to Cut Health Coverage
Editorial Board Calls Upon Gianforte, Daines to Support Tester’s Resolution And Stop Efforts to Strip Health Care From Thousands of Montanans
Helena, MT – The Bozeman Daily Chronicle called upon Rep. Greg Gianforte and Sen. Steve Daines to drop their efforts to eliminate the Affordable Care Act (ACA), describing such attempts to “cu[t] health care” as “disastrous,” “cruel,” and “unforgivable.”

Just last week, Gianforte and Daines confirmed that they still want to repeal the ACA, even in the middle of a pandemic. The ACA paved the way for Montana’s Medicaid expansion – if Daines and Gianforte had their way, 112,000 Montanans will lose their health insurance and Montanans with pre-existing conditions will once again be vulnerable to insurance company discrimination.

Although Gianforte pays lip service to Montana’s Medicaid expansion, he’s called it “a disaster” and pledged to dismantle the ACA “piece by piece.” While Daines claims to support protections for Montanans with pre-existing conditions, he has voted repeatedly to gut these very protections he claims to care about.

“It would seem to be common sense for elected leaders to want to expand health care coverage in a pandemic, not rip it away. Clearly Greg Gianforte and Steve Daines haven’t gotten that memo,” said MDP Deputy Communications Director Matt Fidel. “Gianforte’s and Daines’ attempts to gut Montanans’ health care – in the midst of a public health emergency – are inexcusable.”
