Asked to Respond to Trump Admitting to Downplaying Coronavirus, Daines Says “That Kind of Leadership Saved a Lot of American Lives”

Helena, MT – After a week of silence on the shocking recordings of Trump admitting to playing down the threat of coronavirus, Senator Steve Daines was finally forced to respond. But instead of holding the president accountable for his deliberate misinformation, Daines said Trump’s “leadership saved a lot of American lives” and added, “I wish they’d be asking Joe Biden these questions…The President is very open.”

This is just the latest in Daines’ “fawning adulation” and “cringe-inducing expressions of gratitude” for President Trump’s abysmal response to the pandemic – which has taken nearly 200,000 American lives and infected far more people total than any other country in the world. Instead of fighting for Montanans, Daines is focused on staying in the good graces of Republican leadership and boosting his reelection campaign

“Time and time again, Steve Daines fails to be the independent leader that Montanans deserve,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Daines is only out for himself and his political career – he simply can’t be trusted to do what’s right by Montana.”
